The Story Behind the Charm
In August 2023, I lost my mum to dementia. It was a cruel, gradual loss, one that had been stealing her from us for years before she was gone. By the time my wedding day came, I found myself facing something I hadn't anticipated: I had no recent photographs that truly looked like her, she wasn't the mum I wanted to remember, and I couldn't bear for family and friends to be reminded of what the illness had taken from us.
So, instead of a traditional photo memorial, I chose something different. Something quiet, and private, and entirely mine. I placed a small, meaningful charm hidden amongst the embellishments of my bouquet, invisible to everyone around me, but deeply poignant to me. A secret I carried down the aisle, a private token of love and appreciation, that meant she was with me throughout. It was one of the most comforting things I did on my wedding day.
That experience is why I now offer this to every Magpie Creative bride, because grief doesn't always look the way we expect it to, and sometimes the most meaningful tributes are the ones only you know are there.
